LOS ANGELES, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Aer Lingus, the airline of Ireland, is
launching service from Los Angeles to Ireland on May 28 with flights three
times a week, on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Plans call for an increase to
five times per week by next year. The timing of the launch, Memorial Day
weekend, is ideal for travelers with summer vacation plans taking them to
Ireland, the UK and to key cities in continental Europe.
The decision to "go west" is in line with the airline's North American
growth strategy since renewing its commitment to transatlantic service in
1995. With the introduction of service from its new West Coast gateway, Aer
Lingus will be increasing its transatlantic capacity by over 20 percent. The
new Los Angeles service will also provide convenient access to Ireland from
the growing markets of Australia and New Zealand.
"The Los Angeles gateway fulfills a major piece of our expansion
strategy," says Jack Foley, executive vice president North America. "In order
to become the airline of choice for business, incentive and leisure travel to
Ireland, the U.K. and Europe, we determined that commercially, demographically
and strategically Los Angeles was exactly the right fit."
From Los Angeles, Aer Lingus' fifth U.S. gateway, the airline will provide
non-stop service to Dublin with continuing service to Shannon. Departing Los
Angeles at 6:15 p.m., arrival in Dublin is at 12:30 p.m. the following day.
The return flight leaves Ireland at 12:30 p.m. and arrives in Los Angeles at
3:45 p.m. the same day. A new Airbus A330-200 was delivered on May 7 and
features two-class configuration: Premier Class and Classic Economy.
Aer Lingus service will operate into and out of Tom Bradley International
Terminal, one of eight terminals located within Los Angeles International
Airport. The ticket counter will be located beside Singapore Airlines'
counter. Also, the carrier expects to have a Gold Circle lounge at LAX in the
near future for its Premier Class passengers.
Premier Class, Aer Lingus' award-winning business service, provides
complimentary limousine transfers in the U.S., Ireland and the U.K., exclusive
check-in privileges and use of the Gold Circle lounges in the U.S. and
Ireland, Onboard, passengers will enjoy state-of-the-art seating with
individual video screens and computer ports, touch control sleeperettes with
52 inches of legroom and other amenities, gourmet dining or light cuisine.
Travelers flying beyond Ireland on Aer Lingus appreciate the convenient,
same-terminal connections and all Aer Lingus passengers can take advantage of
U.S. Immigration pre-clearance at Dublin and Shannon.
Within the past two years, Aer Lingus has added service from Newark,
doubled its frequency from Chicago as well as added capacity from Boston and
New York. In all, the airline offers more than 200 flights daily between the
U.S. and Ireland, the U.K., and Continental Europe.
