Association Joins National Movement to Expand the World of Possibilities for Aging
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- In early 2012, coming off of its fifth decade of advocating quality senior living and care, the board of directors for Aging Services of California sought to expand the world of possibilities for aging. Joining with their national association and more than 30 other state affiliates, they took the next step in the evolution of the association and its work by approving a measure that would change its name to LeadingAge California. This action was enthusiastically affirmed by members later in the year, when they cast their ballots to formally become LeadingAge California on January, 1 2013.
"As this association embraces a new name, we have a chance to not only renew our commitment to our long-standing ideals - but to better communicate who we are and what we hope to achieve," said Joanne Handy, the association's president & CEO. "The next 50 years will be filled with unprecedented challenges and opportunities. By becoming LeadingAge California, we can change the way we think about our work and how others think of us. These changes will make us more effective and position us to lead this state to a new and better system of long-term services and supports for people as they age," she concluded.

"Philosophically, the new name represents an opportunity to literally reframe what it means to care for older adults in this state. Practically, the new name connects this association with a national movement charged with expanding the world of possibilities for aging," said Kallander.

LeadingAge California will officially unveil its new name to members of both the California Legislature and various state departments at its upcoming 2013 Public Policy Conference in Sacramento, Calif. The conference will be held March 4-6 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and the theme is Leading Change.
