LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the
largest AIDS organization in the US which operates free AIDS treatment clinics
in the US, Africa, Central America and Asia, has been surveyed by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Education (ACCME) and awarded provisional
accreditation for two years as a provider of Continuing Medical Education
 (CME) for physicians, nationwide.
ACCME accreditation seeks to assure both physicians and the public that
continuing medical education activities provided by AIDS Healthcare Foundation
meet the high standards of the Essential Areas, Elements and Policies for
Accreditation as specified by the ACCME. The ACCME rigorously evaluates the
overall continuing medical education programs of institutions according to
standards adopted by all seven member-organizations of the ACCME. These are:
 the American Board of Medical Specialties; the American Hospital Association;
the American Medical Association; the Association for Hospital Medical
Education; the Association of American Medical Colleges; the Council of
Medical Specialty Societies; and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the
 U.S., Inc.
"We are honored to have received this distinction and to have met the high
standards set forth by the ACCME," said Dr. Charles F. Farthing, M.D., Chief
of Medicine for AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Assistant Clinical Professor of
Medicine at UCLA. "Continuing education is vital for all medical
professionals, but is particularly so in the highly-specialized and
rapidly-changing field of HIV/AIDS treatment. National accreditation will
enable AHF to continue our commitment to offering the highest-quality training
to help meet the challenge of continuing medical education nationwide and we
thank the ACCME for recognizing the valuable contributions of our teaching
staff and programs to the field."
AIDS Healthcare Foundation, currently the accredited provider for the Los
Angeles Inter-City HIV Rounds, which take place Friday mornings in LA County,
has previously been licensed to issue CME credits to physicians and other
medical professionals, including nurses, nurse practitioners, physician
assistants, and pharmacists, in the state of California. National ACCME
accreditation will enable AHF to produce educational programs in any state in
the U.S. and to issue CME credits to medical providers nationwide, during both
in-person forums and online learning programs. With national accreditation,
AHF is well on its way to becoming one of the largest post secondary education
completion providers of continuing medical education in the nation.
