EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Tahiti Nui, the new international airline of Tahiti, announced that it has received U.S. Department of Transportation approval. Service from Los Angeles, CA, to Papeete, Tahiti, will commence as scheduled on November 21. "We are delighted that we have been granted flight approval by the D.O.T. and are eagerly looking forward to providing service to the U.S. market through our Los Angeles gateway," noted Nelson Levy, chairman of the new airline. "Over the past several months, we have been working diligently to insure that our customized, state-of-the-art, 286-passenger Airbus A340-200 aircraft will meet the demands of our customers. We are confident that Air Tahiti Nui will provide a new standard of service to our passengers and the ultimate in comfort and convenience." In conjunction with the D.O.T. approval, Air Tahiti Nui announced that it has selected Delta Air Lines Terminal No. 5 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) as its gateway terminal. "The Delta terminal was completely renovated a few years ago and has a warm and inviting decor. Like our airline, it serves as an oasis for travelers, and provides a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere," Levy said. He added that Air Tahiti Nui's Business Class (Club Poerava) passengers will have use of Delta's exclusive "Crown Room" facilities in the terminal. "In addition to these features, we were very impressed with the terminal's efficiency. It has streamlined U.S. immigration and customs facilities that afford Air Tahiti Nui passengers immediate access to connecting Delta Air Lines flights as well as those of other airlines located in Terminal 5," Levy noted. The terminal is also located within close proximity of all other terminals at LAX, he added. Air Tahiti Nui also announced that it is now part of the SABRE multi-host airline reservation system, and that schedules, availability and ticketing are now available through the GDS. "Our goal is to provide maximum service and benefit to our tour operators, cruise lines, travel agents and incentive/meeting planners to meet the needs of their clients," said Levy. With three weekly (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), early afternoon, non-stop flights to Papeete from Los Angeles, Air Tahiti Nui's schedule is designed to conveniently connect passengers from every major city in North America through its Los Angeles gateway. Arrival and departure times to and from Papeete also will allow passengers to make quick and easy interline connections to and from other Tahitian islands such as Bora Bora and Moorea. Returning flights to Los Angeles on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays will offer the same convenient connections.
