Albany Law School Alumni to Lead Citigroup, USDA and NY Senate Judiciary Committee

ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Three Albany Law School graduates have made headlines with their recent appointments to the top positions at Citigroup, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the New York State Senate Judiciary Committee.

Richard Parsons '71 was named the next chairman of Citigroup on Jan. 21. Previously, Parsons served in the positions of president, CEO and chairman at Time Warner. He was also recently named to President Barack Obama's economic advisory team to help address the current economic crisis. Since graduating from Albany Law School as valedictorian, he has stayed connected to the institution, including visiting the campus to speak to students, accepting a Distinguished Service Award, and, most recently, attending the 2006 Reunion Weekend.

Tom Vilsack '75 was confirmed by the U.S. Senate for the position of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture on Jan. 20. A former two-term Iowa governor, Vilsack has recently co-chaired U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign; headed a national task force to examine the science, economics, and politics of global warming; and worked for the law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP. He received Albany Law School's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007, spending a day on campus with students after receiving the award.

New York State Senator John Sampson '91, who has represented the state's 19th Senatorial District since 1996, was appointed chair of the New York State Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this year. He is a member of Albany Law School's Board of Trustees.
