ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Alexan Carlyle, a new apartment community in Alexandria's Carlyle neighborhood, today announced that it has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star rating for energy efficiency, making it one of the only multi-family residences in the area to hold the designation.

To qualify for the rating, Alexan Carlyle installed an upgraded and more efficient HVAC and air filtration system and had its windows and insulation built and installed specifically to cut down on airflow infiltration. The energy-efficient features created a tighter shell for the units which will allow electricity consumption - and residents' heating and cooling costs - to decrease in the winter and summer months, according to Karen Bunch, property manager.
