
American News Women to Honor Barbara Walters for Excellence in Journalism
Award Luncheon June 21at National Press Club
WASHINGTON, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The American News Women's Club (ANWC) will honor Barbara Walters with its Excellence in Journalism Award on Friday, June 21 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Walters will be recognized for her extraordinary accomplishments and inspirational, trailblazing career. Renowned as one of the greatest broadcast journalists of our time, and even noted in the American Heritage Dictionary, Walters was unanimously selected by the ANWC membership to receive this award. Proceeds from this 19th annual benefit provide scholarships for aspiring journalism students, who will also be recognized at the luncheon.
"What a great day for excellence in journalism when the ANWC can raise our glasses to honor Barbara Walters for consistently breaking the barriers in her chosen field," said Claire Sanders Swift, co-chair of the benefit with Ginny Daly. "It's also a testament to Ms. Walters that so many of the media greats will be in one room to honor her." Speakers will include Ted Koppel, Howard Kurtz, Sally Quinn with Norah O'Donnell as emcee. Also in attendance, past recipients of the ANWC award, Bob Schieffer, Andrea Mitchell, Diane Rehm and other special guests. The festivities will begin with a VIP reception at noon; the luncheon and award program will begin at 12:30 p.m.
