American Screenwriters Association Announces New International Conference in Sydney
`Selling to Hollywood Down Under' a Joint Enterprise with
Australian Film and Television
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Selling to Hollywood
Down Under screenwriters conference is a new joint venture between the
American Screenwriters Association and Australian film and television
enterprises. Partnering with the American Screenwriters Association are
AusFilm, a unique collaboration of over 60 corporate members, Australia's
state film offices and the federal government through the Department of
Communications, and the Arts and Austrade, as well as the Australian Centre
for the Moving Image (ACMI), which is dedicated to all forms of moving image
film -- television, video games, Internet and other emerging digital
technology.
Featured speakers include American industry leaders such as producer Gary
Goldstein (The Mothman Prophecies, Pretty Woman, Under Siege), Oscar-winning
screenwriter Pamela Wallace (Witness, Alibi), Academy and Emmy Award-nominated
producer and filmmaker Shelby Stone (Once Around, Boycott, Peace: Live With it
or Rest in It), and fifteen additional industry experts from Australia and the
United States.
"The philosophy of the `Down Under' conference is in harmony with our
organization's mission of building an international community of
screenwriters," said John E. Johnson, ASA Executive Director. "It's a
wonderful opportunity to accomplish our goals of breaking down the walls
between the people writing scripts and those who can get them produced."
The conference will provide educational workshops and marketing
opportunities featuring an elite pool of Hollywood and Australia's producers,
agents and studio reps. Attendees will experience an interactive mixture of
lectures, seminars, and panel discussions with the ability for confirmed one-
on-one time to pitch ideas and scripts to industry professionals. Personal
faculty consultations will provide delegates with an opportunity to have
unprecedented direct access to industry executives both local and overseas. In
return the Australia and New Zealand film and television industry gains vital
access to unknown "stories" by talented regional writers.
The Selling to Hollywood Down Under Conference is scheduled for May 27 -
30, 2003 at the Star City Resort in Sydney, Australia. For more information on
