Americana band headlines downtown Springfield concert series Truck Stop Troubadours comes to Stearns Square in downtown Springfield for annual summer concert series.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Stearns Square Summer Concert series took a turn toward rockabilly on July 31 with Truck Stop Troubadours taking the stage as part of the City of Springfield's weekly showcase of the downtown entertainment district.
The live music series takes place on Thursday nights in downtown Springfield's historic Stearns Square. The square, centrally located between Worthington and Bridge Streets, serves as the hub of the city's entertainment district and vibrant Club Quarter.
Truck Stop Troubadours is a local / regional outfit that plays country, rockabilly, and traditional roots music. The band has opened for national touring acts such as Dwight Yoakum, Kenny Rogers, and the Charlie Daniels Band, and has twice earned the Valley Advocate Reader's Poll nod as "Country Band of the Year."
The long-running series began as CityBlock in the summer of 2000 when the city closed off part of Main Street in downtown Springfield and created an outdoor, festival-type setting for live concerts.
The following year, the series moved to Stearns Square in an effort to highlight the Club Quarter's eclectic mix of restaurants, nightclubs, office space, and market-rate housing.
This season, the concert series will bring in regional and national acts like The Smithereens, John Eddie, and Roomful of Blues.
The concerts are free and open to the public and the music begins at 8 p.m.
The Stearns Square Summer Concert Series is produced by the Springfield Business Improvement District. For more information in the concerts and events going on in downtown Springfield, visit www.springfielddowntown.com.
