America's Historic Boarding Schools Go Green With New World Home

Christchurch School and New World Home Partner for Sustainable Faculty Housing

CHICAGO, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- At the annual conference of The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), New World Home and Christchurch School will be presenting an innovative housing solution for schools with the introduction of the New Old Green Modular® (NOGM®) home.

Christchurch School is working with New World Home to build several sustainable faculty homes on its sprawling, riverside campus in Christchurch, Virginia. For schools like Christchurch that have a mission to not only adhere to, but exceed stringent green mandates, renovating or adding to a campus has traditionally been extremely expensive, architecturally challenging and highly disruptive to the campus environment. New World Home is changing the face of student and faculty housing by providing the opportunity to be environmentally sustainable while paying homage to the historic architecture.

Headmaster Jeb Byers states, "New World Home answers our search for a company philosophy and vision that is consistent with our own school's mission. As we redesign our school for the future, the New Old Green Modular housing project with New World Home reflects a powerful strategic alliance that says we are walking our talk and living our mission."

New World Home's primary mission is to converge traditional home design with next generation green technologies and highly efficient modular manufacturing, representing the advent of the New Old Green Modular home. These structures are built with exceedingly low environmental impact and designed to consume minimal energy, with no sacrifice of design aesthetics or modern amenities. A NOGM home is designed to provide 50% energy savings, save thousands of gallons of water per year, and provide a superior indoor air quality -- all at an attainable price.

New World Home's innovative work has been acknowledged by the most established and credible entities in the world of environmental sustainability. The company has built the first factory-built LEED® Platinum certified homes in both Georgia and New York. These homes were also the first homes of any kind to reach the Platinum level of certification without the need for costly renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, wind turbines or geothermal systems. In this new academic endeavor, New World Home will bring its expertise to Christchurch and partner with the school to lead the way towards a sustainable future for America's historic boarding schools.

"New World Home is able to deliver the highest level of sustainable faculty housing to the Christchurch campus. Its rich history and surrounding architectural environment make it the ideal setting for our NOGM housing solution," says Tyler Schmetterer, Co-Founder and COO of New World Home. "In our work, we always seek to design homes that are well informed by the history of their setting and have little impact on their surrounding environment. At Christchurch, our priority is to facilitate faculty housing, while also seeking to provide an educational experience to students and the larger community. Through our NWH Institute, we teach innovation through environmental sustainability by offering training and certification in green homebuilding."

ABOUT CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL

Founded in 1921 by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, Christchurch is a college-preparatory school for 215 students, including boarding and day boys, and day girls, in grades 9-12. Tucked alongside the Rappahannock River, Christchurch School's bucolic 120-acre campus is a rare find. Boasting among its graduates Pulitzer Prize winners William Styron and Lewis Puller, Christchurch offers a small, welcoming atmosphere where students comfortably develop both existing and new strengths. To help students succeed, Christchurch, an Episcopal school, provides a sound college preparatory education in a caring, structured community. Part of that education includes stewardship of Rappahannock River and awareness of the broader natural environment, so that their students learn to look beyond themselves to their place in the world around them.
