LEVITTOWN, Pa., May 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- By Cassandra Williamson
After a three year hiatus, the annual Scott Tucker Community Fun Day is coming back to the city of Levittown, Pennsylvania in 2014. The event is based on community block parties and picnics organized by Levittown resident Scott Tucker in the 1960's. Scott Tucker died in 2003, which prompted his grandson Scott Tucker III to begin organizing the community fun day in his memory.
"Community was very important to my grandfather," says Scott Tucker. "He wanted all of the neighbors to know each other and have good times together. Growing up, I could just walk into our neighbor's house whenever I wanted, with no need to knock or anything, they were like family."
After many consecutive years of successful community fun days, Scott Tucker was unable to organize the event for the past three years due to work and family commitments that kept him out of the Levittown area during the summer months. This year Tucker is able to organize the event again, and he says that he is working to place the responsibilities for keeping the event going into the hands of a community group, to ensure continuity.
"It's really a shame that I wasn't around to keep the day going for the past few years," says Scott Tucker. "We had nearly ten years of very successful community days that everyone really enjoyed. This year, I will be taking the lead in organizing everything, but several people are going to be helping me and we hope to create an informal group that will be responsible for making the plans each year and will give new people an opportunity to get involved behind the scenes."
According to Tucker, the community fun day will be open to anyone and everyone who shows up. Possible locations for this year's community fun day include the Middletown community center and Levittown Park. Attendees are asked to bring food or supplies, but no one will be turned away.
"We pretty much get the word out through our personal networks, which are extensive after three generations in the city," says Scott Tucker. "My family, my friends and I invite everyone we know and we've always gotten a great turnout. We don't want anyone to be left out though, so we're trying to get the word out in different ways this year so that everyone feels welcome to come hangout for a day and make new friends."
The 2014 Levittown Annual Community Fun Day will be held the weekend after Memorial Day. Further information about the time and location will be available closer to Memorial Day weekend.
