Answers.com's WikiAnswers Tops One Million Questions
Q&A Community Activity Continues to Grow Steadily
NEW YORK, October 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Answers Corporation
( ANSW), creators of the leading answer engine offering
Answers.com(TM) and WikiAnswers.com(TM), announced today that WikiAnswers
(http://wiki.answers.com) has passed the one million question milestone.
The millionth question, placed in the Science and Environment category,
was "Are there readily available substitutes for gold in industrial
applications?", asked at 12:22 pm EST. WikiAnswers currently contains over
2,100 categories of questions.
"We are thrilled by this achievement," said Jay Bailey, Director of
Marketing and Community Development. "The rate at which our community of
contributors is growing is testament to the attractiveness of the
WikiAnswers approach."
According to analysis using ComScore data (comScore Media Metrix, US
Top 1500 Web Domains Report, January 2007 vs. September 2007, Ranked by %
Change), for the first nine months of this year, WikiAnswers unique monthly
visitor count in the U.S. has grown 317%, to over four million. This ranks
WikiAnswers as the second-fastest growing domain of the top 1,500.
Bailey noted that yesterday, registered users grew by 1,867, a new
daily record. "The site's features continue to improve, based almost
exclusively on the requests and suggestions of the community, led by our
talented and dedicated volunteer Supervisors. It takes the guesswork out of
our development plan, as they know exactly what changes will yield a better
experience for our contributors."
WikiAnswers is a wiki-based website that is constantly improving,
through the efforts of its dedicated question and answer community. It is
the user generated content (UGC) component of Answers.com, where visitors
share what they know and ask about what they don't. Wiki Q&As are 'living'
documents, where answers are constantly being improved and updated over
time. This ensures that no identical answer is developed in parallel, and
that good answers can become great answers over time. The individual
contributions yield information resources that are used again and again by
almost half a million people a day.
