BOSTON, Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Apperian® Inc., the mobile application management company, has recently been named to AlwaysOn's OnMobile Top 100 list and has been lauded by industry analysts for its innovation in the mobile application management (MAM™) space. Apperian was a winner in the Enterprise Applications category for AlwaysOn's OnMobile Top 100, selected by leading investors, service professionals and other top champions of entrepreneurial companies based on a set of five criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value, and media buzz. A leader amongst its peers, Apperian's inclusion is one of many recent recognitions of its momentum and the growing demand for mobile application management technology.
A recent report from 451 Research found that 46 percent of companies that have deployed enterprise mobility management (EMM) tools will invest in MAM within the next two years, driven by the growing need for companies to control the movement of corporate data in environments where BYOD is more and more prevalent. Apperian has been helping organizations deploy, secure, and manage their enterprise apps since 2009, delivering more than 1.2 million app downloads for its customers.
In its recent Globe Report for Enterprise Mobile Management, Aragon Research noted that "as the pioneer of mobile application management and enterprise app stores, Apperian offers solid capabilities in managing enterprise mobile apps across the full mobile app lifecycle. Apperian can provide mobile app management for corporate and personal devices without requiring MDM and without requiring the use of an SDK to modify the mobile apps being managed. Apperian is ideal for enterprises that already have MDM – or that do not want to use MDM – but need to secure and manage their growing Mobile App Portfolio" (Aragon Research Globe™ 2014 Report For Enterprise Mobile Management, Jim Lundy, Sep. 17, 2014).[1]
Apperian was also mentioned in a recent Gartner research report titled, "How to Choose Among MADP, MAM and EMM Security Controls for Mobile Apps," by Jason Wong and Dionisio Zumerle, published October 3, 2014. The report maps out a recommended framework for enterprises to choose and leverage MADP, MAM or EMM technologies to systematically address critical security requirements for custom-built, business-to-employee mobile apps.
Additional key findings from the report include:
- Mobile device management technology is the most widespread tool used for mobile security, and yet it is insufficient for the majority of business-to-employee mobile app protection.
- Imposing security policies on the entire device rather than the app can be impractical, particularly for mobile apps deployed on non-corporate-owned devices used by employees and partners.
- To quickly deliver basic security functionality, app wrapping via EMM or MAM can be a good option. The wrapping approach can also be a good option for large environments, where there are several development teams, each working with different methods and best practices. Decoupling the security functionality and imposing it once development is done can make the process easier and more repeatable.
- As bring your own device proliferates and enterprises start moving into security models where all types of endpoints are treated as untrusted ones, securing mobile apps becomes a vital part of an enterprise strategy.
"There's a pivotal shift away from device-centric management in enterprise mobility," said Mark Lorion, CMO of Apperian. "Our company's vision for an app-centric approach is being rapidly adopted by the industry. The recognition of our MAM platform speaks to our ability to provide the tools that organizations need to secure applications and empower employees in the increasingly common unmanaged, BYOD work environment."
