Appointment to the Pacific Pilotage Authority

OTTAWA, May 29, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, today announced the appointment of Ms. Katherine Bright to the Pacific Pilotage Authority for a term of four years.

"I am pleased that Ms. Bright has agreed to serve on the board of the Pacific Pilotage Authority," said Minister Lebel. "Her vast experience in business management, as well as her leadership and organizational skills, will greatly benefit the Authority."

Ms. Bright teaches marketing, business planning and strategy at the University of British Columbia's (UBC) Sauder School of Business Executive Education program and the Continuing Studies program. She also works as a consultant for clients representing education, private enterprise and law/mediation sectors. Since 2002, she has been an instructor and consultant at the Institute of Family Enterprise Advisors in Vancouver and served as president of the organization during its start-up phase.  Previously, Ms. Bright occupied management positions in various organizations, from acting managing director at the not-for-profit organization Treehouse in Seattle, Washington, to assistant dean and executive director at UBC's Sauder School of Business.

Ms Bright's volunteer activities include serving on the Business Families Centre Board of the Sauder School of Business, and chairing the strategic planning and succession planning committees on the Highlands Preschool Board in North Vancouver. She also served on the Highlands Elementary School Executive Committee as chair of the strategic planning committee.

Ms. Bright has a master of business administration degree from the University of British Columbia as well as a bachelor of arts, with a major in psychology, from the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington.

The Pacific Pilotage Authority is a Crown corporation created in 1972 under the Pilotage Act. Its mandate is to operate and maintain safe, reliable and efficient marine pilotage and related services in the coastal waters of British Columbia, including the Fraser River.
