Apricorn Enters Into License Agreement With IBM to Ship a Complete Line
Of IBM-branded Flash Memory Cards
SAN DIEGO, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the growing demand for CompactFlash memory, Apricorn today announced a strategic partnership with IBM to deliver IBM branded CompactFlash cards to the market. Apricorn, a leading manufacturer of portable computer storage and memory products, has signed a license agreement with IBM that will allow Apricorn to manufacturer and distribute CompactFlash, Smart Media, ATA Flash, USB readers and PC card adapters under the IBM brand name. The IBM branded CompactFlash cards will be exclusively sold through IBM resellers and distributors. As the first "ThinkPad Proven" memory partner, Apricorn has an established relationship with IBM. "Apricorn has been a qualified supplier of products for IBM systems for some time now, and we are very pleased to extend our relationship by licensing the IBM brand for their CompactFlash memory cards. This relationship will meet consumer memory needs for multiple devices in the market and will also allow synergy with other IBM products," said Raymond Uhlir Jr., Program Director of the Licensing and Business Development for the Consumer Division of IBM. "Under this agreement, Apricorn will supply products and services meeting IBM required standards for quality, reliability, and compatibility that our IBM resellers, distributors and consumers have come to expect." Flash memory technology has dramatically increased efficiency throughout the mobile workforce by reducing the amount of time and effort used to transfer and store data. By offering higher capacities than traditional memory devices, CompactFlash provides users with the ability to transfer a large amount of data between different systems. Designed primarily for use with digital cameras, hand-held PC's and PDA's, the IBM CompactFlash cards are available in 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48MB capacities. "As IBMs official manufacturing licensee for CompactFlash products, we can supply IBM resellers and distributors with a range of CompactFlash options to meet a wide variety of applications," said Paul Brown, president of Apricorn. "And, because IBM has entrusted its brand name to these products, customers can be assured that they meet IBM's rigorous standards for performance and quality."
