Artists Sought as the Brandywine Festival of the Arts Returns
WILMINGTON, Del., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Brandywine Festival of the Arts, a beloved tradition on the banks of the Brandywine River in downtown Wilmington, will return on September 11 and 12 this year. The list of exhibiting artists from throughout the US is now being developed for the 50th anniversary of this event.
"We are hearing from artists up and down the east coast who are excited to once again participate," says the Festival's new executive producer Barry Schlecker. "One of our primary goals is to strengthen the quality of exhibited art so we have established a jury to review each artist-applicant. That started this week and continues through the next month," Schlecker adds.
After the Brandywine Festival of the Arts was not held in 2009, Schlecker, an event producer who has developed the Newark, DE Film Festival into one of the most popular such events on the east coast, stepped up to rejuvenate it. In years past, as many as 25,000 people attended the Brandywine Festival of the Arts.
"We'd like to have 250 artists participate, and our focus is artist-friendly. Without artists, we don't have an event," Schlecker says, adding that the deadline for artists to apply has been extended to April 30; acceptances will be sent to artists by May 15, credit cards are accepted and the event is already being heavily marketed.
Schlecker welcomes artist contact and can be reached at 302-690-5555 or [email protected]. An artist application is available online at www.brandywinearts.com.
