(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20010524/ARVINLOGO ) Entries to the twentieth annual awards program were evaluated on a two- tier judging process. First, communications professionals from IABC chapters across the U.S. judged all of the entries to determine Awards of Merit, Honor and Excellence. Then, a "blue ribbon" judging panel chose six Best of Show winners from among the Awards of Excellence in each discipline. The awards were presented at ceremonies held June 11, 2001, at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial in Grosse Pointe, Mich. In selecting the ArvinMeritor communications plan for Best in Show in the "Events, Direct Mail and Advertising" discipline, panel judges Mary Lorencz, director of Corporate Media Relations, Kmart Corp., and Wayne Mielke, vice president, Corporate Communications, Comerica Inc., shared their endorsement of the external special events project. "This entry was well thought out, well planned, and could be used as a blueprint for any organization to create a stupendous event," said Lorencz. Mielke agreed. "I think what was singularly impressive about it was its scope, its attention to detail," he said. "All of the exhaustive work that went into the planning and implementation. It showed. And I think it's worthy of Best of Show."
