LOS GATOS, Calif., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 24, l999 the House Judiciary Committee's Sub-Committee on Commercial and Administrative Law will hold hearings on franchising. Small business franchisees will have the opportunity to testify about issues and problems in the franchising industry. Some of these issues include restraint of trade, inflated pricing, devaluation of assets and equity and the right of a franchisee to compete after they leave a system. The Chem Dry group is being led by Pat & Mike Smith Bradley, the owners of eight Chem Dry Carpet Cleaning franchises. They believe that all franchisees should have the right to bilaterally negotiate the franchise agreement when the agreement comes up for renewal. With the passage of legislation designed to promote equitable franchise agreements, establish uniform standards of conduct in franchise relationships and restore franchisee's freedom to contract, abuses that are so rampant in some franchise systems will be reduced.
