Atelier Bala launches first collection at pop-up showroom in DUMBO, Brooklyn
NEW YORK, April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Atelier Bala, a new Toronto-based design office rooted on creative integrity, technical innovation and superior craftsmanship, is pleased to announce the launch of its first collection at 215P Gallery, in DUMBO, one of New York City's premier art districts.
Pushing the boundaries on furniture design, which is evident in this first collection, Atelier Bala objects are an amalgamation of sculptural work and innovative, high-tech manufacturing processes, allied to age-old fine carpentry techniques. Its founder, Bala Nagothu, has extensive knowledge in materials and manufacturing processes, having owned and managed companies in wood, plastics and coatings over the past 18 years. That experience, combined with his philosophical and contemplative nature, is translated into forms as an exquisite 10-piece luxury collection, featuring a range of limited-edition objects - from sinuous and elegant lounge chairs, to a provocative and bold closet.
"The objects are meant to be sculptural and yet fully functional in their intended use. The idea is to encourage a dialogue and an intimacy between the object and its user - a personal relationship. The materials, textures, and finishes are selected to achieve this objective", says Nagothu.
Atelier Bala will be on view to the public and trade from April 25 until August 29, 2014, by appointment only, and will be preceded by a private reception at 215P Gallery on April 24.
