The latest CPSC report proves immediate State and Federal assistance is necessary to save homeowners, who are the ultimate victims of this drywall catastrophe

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Since the discovery that toxic Chinese drywall has devastated homes in Florida, attorney Mike Ryan, from Krupnick Campbell Malone Buser Slama Hancock Liberman & McKee, has worked tirelessly to help find relief for homeowners. Ryan just returned from Washington D.C. where he, along with homeowners and representatives from the building industry, met with Congressional and Senate leaders, jointly pressing for immediate financial assistance for all homeowners impacted by this catastrophe.

"Today, the CPSC issued a long-awaited report proving what we all knew - the defective drywall is causing the corrosion in these homes and businesses," said Ryan. "The report also validates at least the potential short term health concerns for some homeowners and those working with this drywall. The time for action is now!"

Ryan, a partner at Krupnick Campbell Malone Buser Slama Hancock Liberman & McKee, explained, "This is a desperate situation for homeowners and our communities. People are losing their homes and their entire savings, the blight of abandonment is taking over in communities, insurance companies are refusing to pay, and the homes can not be sold." Noting the growing recognition that this is national disaster, Ryan added, "Even some builders are beginning to realize that if the homeowners are not given immediate assistance, not only are the homeowners at risk, but so is the entire building industry in the United States. Insurance companies for the builders are using some of the very same excuses to refuse coverage for the builders."

Ryan demanded, "Today, we are imploring State and Federal officials to implement emergency measures to help homeowners bridge over the raging waters of this catastrophe." Ryan represents over 250 homeowners throughout the State of Florida.

"This 'silent hurricane' has caused a path of destruction throughout Florida and the country," said Ryan. "But, it is worse than a hurricane in some sense because insurance companies are refusing to pay and those responsible are unwilling or unable to help."

Ryan summed up, "After waiting nearly a year, we are disappointed that the CPSC waited until the very day Congress was out of session to issue such an important report. But, we are in contact with all the Congressional and Senate leaders as we press for emergency measures to address this 'silent hurricane'. The highest calling of government is to help those who can no longer help themselves, who have tried to pull themselves up on their own, who have done everything right and nothing wrong, and who are faced with a catastrophe like this 'silent hurricane.' An emergency relief package for homeowners would be a 'true' stimulus to the economy."
