AVP World Challenge - USA vs. Brazil set to take place in Glendale, Arizona

LOS ANGELES, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The AVP and the United States have formally invited Brazil to bring their best beach volleyball teams and compete in a heads-up challenge to determine which country reigns supreme in beach volleyball, it was announced today.

"The AVP is putting prize money on the table," said Jason Hodell, AVP CEO. "Let's settle this dominant beach volleyball country debate heads-up."

The AVP World Challenge - USA vs. Brazil will pit top men's and women's teams from the AVP Crocs Tour against their counterparts from Brazil. The United States' delegation will likely include two-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh and 2008 Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers. A portion of the prize money will be set aside for a winner-take-all country purse, based on the combined country team's performance.

"We've played the Brazilians all over the world on the FIVB Tour and in the Olympics, but never on our home turf," said Todd Rogers, 2008 Olympic gold medalist and top AVP athlete. "I'd be honored to have the Brazilians meet us in Arizona and accept our challenge."

If Brazil accepts the challenge, the AVP World Challenge - USA vs. Brazil is set take place at Westgate City Center in Glendale, Ariz., September 25-27.
