Bahrain To Hold Seat on UN Human Rights Council Advisory Committee
MANAMA, Bahrain, Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Sept. 28, Said Al-Faihani of Bahrain was elected to serve as the Asian Group representative on the U.N. Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Advisory Committee.
Bahrain's election to the UNHRC Advisory Committee follows over 10 months of progress implementing prescribed reforms contained in the report of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry Report. Earlier this month, UNHRC accepted Bahrain's response to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) with no objection. In its response, Bahrain committed to implementing 90% of the UPR's recommendations.
The UNHRC Advisory Committee acts as a think tank for the council with its 18 expert-members.
