Bahrain Embassy Hosts Iftar In Honor Of The Shoulder To Shoulder Campaign
WASHINGTON, Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Kingdom of Bahrain's Ambassador to the United States Houda Nonoo hosted an Iftar dinner honoring the work of the Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign – a non-profit, interfaith organization working to end anti-Muslim sentiment in America.
During her opening remarks, Ambassador Nonoo highlighted the culture of religious tolerance Bahrain has cultivated.
"For Bahrain, religious freedom is not merely an ideal we aspire to; it is the reality we live every day," she said. "Although Bahrain is a predominantly Muslim country, people of all faiths have full freedom of worship."
The event also featured speeches from three representatives from the Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign. Dr. Mohamed Elsanousi , who also serves as the Community Relations Director of the Islamic Society of North America, noted the importance of the Campaign's September 2010 summit during which 40 interfaith religious leaders called upon their followers to combat anti-Muslim sentiment.
Reverend Richard Cizik , the co-founder of the New Evangelical Partnership, emphasized the role interfaith dialogue plays in combating anti-Muslim extremism in his remarks to the group.
In the final speech of the evening, Shoulder to Shoulder's Campaign Director Christine Warner highlighted the Campaign's growth and discussed its ongoing activities across the country to end incitement against Muslims.
