DAVIE, Fla., April 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Bankers Healthcare Group employees spent the day volunteering at Lotus House Women's Shelter in Miami, Florida on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Founded by the Sundari Foundation, the Lotus House has dedicated 10 years to improving the lives of homeless women, youth and children and not only provides them with shelter, but also acts as an advocate to raise awareness about their particular needs and circumstances.
The staff at BHG worked together to plan a whole day of fun-filled activities for the women and children at the shelter. With BHG providing all of the necessary materials, the children decorated small pots and created their own miniature herb gardens. Volunteers from Bankers Healthcare Group also provided and served lunch to the shelter guests.
"Our company was built on the foundation of supporting those that care for others. We're very fortunate at BHG. It is imperative that we give back to the communities we call home," said BHG President Bob Castro. "Lotus House is making a huge impact in Miami and our team was privileged to play a small part in their efforts. I'm proud to work shoulder-to-shoulder with individuals who have such passion and desire to serve."
"We are so grateful to everyone at BHG for bringing their time, heart and spirits to host a morning of art and community at Lotus House," said Lotus House Director Anna Frusciante. "Our guests loved painting flower pots and gardening, and in the process have the opportunity to heal and blossom themselves."
In addition to visiting the shelter, BHG employees donated various items to the Lotus House, including 20 baskets of hygiene products as an early Mother's Day gift for the shelter guests. Many employees also donated baby clothes for the small children and newborns housed by Lotus House.
"Visiting Lotus House and meeting the many different women and children at the shelter this past weekend was an incredible experience," said BHG Senior Human Resources Generalist Madison Bernal, one of the volunteers. "The Lotus House truly provides a sanctuary for the minds, hearts and bodies of women and children in the Miami community who are in need. It's clear that Lotus House is achieving its vision of building a bigger and brighter future for women and children."
