SINGAPORE, Aug. 10 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- BASF has signed a one-year
R&D agreement with Singapore-based NanoMaterials Technology Pte Ltd
("NMT"), a company that develops and commercializes production technologies
for nanomaterials. The collaboration will focus on nanoparticle synthesis
and application development.
In this collaboration, BASF will use NMT's technology for producing
stabilized and agglomerate-free Zinc Oxide nanosuspensions, with particle
sizes well below 20 nanometers (the millionth part of a millimeter). These
small particles are used for further treatment to obtain tailor-made
functionalities for a broad range of technical applications (catalysts,
polymers, pigments, etc).
"We are honoured to be working with BASF, the world's leading chemical
company. By leveraging the strength of our High Gravity Controlled
Precipitation (HGCP) technology platform in nanoparticle synthesis and
BASF's strength in application development, we hope to be able to bring
products to market in a shorter period of time," says Dr. Jimmy Yun, Chief
Executive Officer of NMT.
NMT will be working with BASF's Competence Center for Nanostructured
Surfaces, which was set up in Singapore in April 2006 to concentrate on
nanostructured surface modification.
"Our R&D efforts are not just within our labs, but deliberately
incorporate external partners, such as industrial partners, universities
and research institutes," says Dr. Andreas Fechtenkoetter, head of BASF's
Competence Center for Nanostructured Surfaces. "BASF is currently involved
in about 1,300 R&D partnerships worldwide, which provide our research
activities around the world with impulses on market needs and technology
trends. We thus create extended communities, through which, people within
and beyond BASF, exchange capabilities across disciplines, functions and
time-zones to achieve objectives faster and more effectively."
BASF is the world's leading chemical company: The Chemical Company. Its
portfolio ranges from chemicals, plastics, performance products,
agricultural products and fine chemicals to crude oil and natural gas. As a
reliable partner to virtually all industries, BASF's intelligent system
solutions and high-value products help its customers to be more successful.
BASF develops new technologies and uses them to open up additional market
opportunities. It combines economic success with environmental protection
and social responsibility, thus contributing to a better future. BASF has
approximately 94,000 employees and posted sales of more than euro 42.7
billion (approximately $50.4 billion) in 2005. Further information on BASF
