NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Bauer Media Group's US digital business - Bauer Xcel Media US - today announced three important additions to the company's leadership team, Mike Shaughnessy, Vice President Revenue, Kate Spies, Vice President Editorial and Audience Development and Lisa van Gelder, Senior Vice President Technology.
Ms. van Gelder will drive technology strategy and operations as well as manage the technology team at Bauer Xcel Media. Van Gelder comes to Bauer Xcel from Stride, where she was Vice President of Engineering. She has over 16 years of engineering experience, 10 years of management experience, and a strong background in leading, growing and scaling successful engineering teams. She has an international background that fits well with Bauer Xcel Media's global presence, having managed teams in both London and New York ranging from small start-ups to large media organizations like the BBC and the Guardian newspaper.
Specializing in content, social and distribution strategy, Kate Spies has had a key role in rapidly scaling a number of brands and guiding large teams through high-growth phases at companies worldwide. At Bauer Xcel Media, Spies' mission is to diversify traffic sources, drive efficiency and high output at scale within the editorial team, and deliver high-quality content across a wide variety of channels such as video and features. Before Bauer Xcel, Spies was the Head of Content for Mamamia, the largest online women's network in Australia where she drove audience growth by 200%. Previously, she worked at Bauer Media Australia where she oversaw content operations for Cosmopolitan online.
As Vice President Revenue, Mike Shaughnessy is responsible for the identification, implementation and optimization of all programmatic revenue partners, including Kargo, Bauer Xcel's largest revenue partner. Shaughnessy is also tasked with ensuring that Bauer Xcel's ad technology meets industry standards and that the company is positioned to embrace new technologies as they arise. Prior to joining Bauer Xcel Media, Mike was Vice President, Programmatic at Patch.com. Previous to his time at Patch, he was responsible for maximizing programmatic revenue and traffic acquisition strategies at About.com.
