ASHBURN, Va., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The holiday season is a time to show appreciation to others, but to the kindergarten students at BeanTree Learning in Ashburn, this time of year means so much more. The classmates of the private kindergarten program have come together to not only send their artwork and handwritten letters to members of the Leesburg-based National Guard troops recently deployed to Afghanistan, but to send a little TLC - handmade pillows!

The pillows were carefully crafted by a grandmother of one of the kindergarten students who knows first-hand how to make the most of each and every moment life gives you. Suzanne Baker can be called a devoted grandmother first and foremost, but she is also the manager of the Broadlands area Safeway store and a cancer survivor. For the past five years she has been battling multiple forms of cancer and has kept beating the odds with a resilient and positive attitude. "We've got to make the most out of every moment in life and the holidays are the perfect time to give our troops a little slice of home while they are thousands of miles away from their friends and family. Whenever they rest their weary heads, they will think of home and the children at BeanTree who think so much of them," stated Baker.

Baker's grandson Brandon and his fellow BeanTree classmates personally stuffed each pillow and selected the NFL team logos that would emblazon each custom creation. Baker said the students have compiled a care package that will include a pillow, homemade cookies and letters from students that will be presented from each student to the Leesburg-based Army National Guard representatives for immediate shipment to Afghanistan this week.
