Bell reduces mobile roaming prices for Cuba

Popular sun destination joins growing list of countries where Bell has reduced roaming costs thanks to ongoing negotiations with international telecom suppliers

MONTREAL, Feb. 10, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell today announced significant decreases in its mobile roaming prices for consumers travelling to Cuba, including reductions in the cost of data, voice and text roaming, effective tomorrow.

Part of Bell's commitment to lower roaming costs for Canadian consumers, the Cuba rate reductions follow similar price decreases for the United States, Europe, Mexico, China, Australia and New Zealand, and Bermuda and most Caribbean islands since September 2013. Bell also introduced convenient Travel Data Passes that offer usage monitoring and alerts, and can be purchased before or during travel using the Bell Mobility self-serve app.

"Bell customers asked us for better roaming rates to the places they travel to the most, so they can enjoy the same great smartphone experience they have at home while travelling abroad," said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility. "We are pleased to add Cuba to the growing list of countries where we've significantly lowered the cost of mobile roaming for Canadian consumers."

Starting tomorrow, February 11, consumers travelling to Cuba can buy mobile data usage for as low as 60 cents per Megabyte (MB), voice calling for 50 cents a minute, and texts for 15 cents each. Customers who want only voice and text can now purchase 60 minutes of voice and text messaging (unlimited incoming and 200 sent texts) for $45. Pay-per-use wireless roaming in Cuba is now billed at $2 a minute for voice and $8 per MB of data, a cost reduction of up to 50%.
