Blackwell's Chooses ebrary's Technology to Showcase Books Online
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackwell's Book Services
(www.blackwell.com), a leading book supplier to the library market, today
announced that it has partnered with ebrary(TM) (www.ebrary.com), a leading
provider of information distribution and retrieval technology, to enable
libraries to make more informed buying decisions. Under terms of the
agreement, Blackwell's will license ebrary's technology platform to enable
libraries to openly browse through select, full-text titles online before
purchasing books in print. ebrary's platform will be integrated with
Blackwell's Collection Manager workflow system, which provides automatic
ordering and access to more than two million bibliographic records
representing the top scholarly and academic titles in the world.
"ebrary offers unique technology that enables an unlimited number of
librarians to simultaneously peruse full-text books online before making
collection development decisions," said Dan Halloran, President and CEO of
Blackwell's Book Services. "Additionally, because ebrary is based on the
portable document format (PDF), books maintain the exact look and feel of the
documents that we sell in print. ebrary's technology also delivers one page
at a time, which eliminates the need for libraries to download the entire
document prior to viewing. We are very pleased to integrate ebrary's
technology with our Collection Manager system."
"Blackwell's is a world renowned leader in the library market, providing
more than 15,000 academic, research and public libraries throughout the world
with books and value added bibliographic products. They are also at the
forefront in combining traditional bookselling expertise with the latest
developments in library technology," said Christopher Warnock, CEO of ebrary.
"We are all very proud that Blackwell's chose ebrary. In addition to
benefiting libraries, it will also provide a new outlet for publishers to
showcase their works online and is enormous validation for our technology."
