Blue Ridge Mazda Acknowledges Another High NCAP Safety Rating for Mazda CX-5
LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo., June 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Since its launch, the 2013 Mazda CX-5 has earned a great deal of recognition for its outstanding safety features. In March, the crossover was given the title of "Top Safety Pick 2012" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) gave the vehicle the maximum five-star safety rating. The Euro NCAP is based on a five-point scale that covers four different categories. First is the adult occupant protection, which comprises half of the rating. Next is the child occupant and pedestrian protection, each comprising 20 percent of the rating, and the final ten percent is for safety assist. Each category rating is determined by a series of tests that truly assesses the vehicle's overall safety.
The CX-5 was tested in vehicle side impact, pole side impact, whiplash impact, pedestrian protection and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) evaluation. In order to be awarded the high safety rating, the vehicle needed to receive a high score in each category. The crossover was one of the leading vehicles tested even with the recently implemented standard increase.
