Bobby Kennedy, Jr. Speaks Out About America's Energy Policies
NEW YORK, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The launch issue of Above Magazine, which targets the environmentally conscious reader, highlights Bobby Kennedy, Jr., an active environmentalist for more than 20 years. He recently spoke at New York's Bedford Environmental Summit held in early 2009 where he strayed from his usual speeches on polluted rivers and how they affect humans to discuss how taking the time to think creatively can lead to business innovation that will generate a positive impact on the environment.
Kennedy speaks of how our government relies heavily on other countries, borrows billions of dollars to buy oil from countries that ultimately end up using the profits against us. "Using wind and solar power and weaning our economy from foreign imports will fix the economy, generate billions in investment and create millions of jobs," said Kennedy. The U.S. Midwest produces enough wind to generate much of the nation's energy needs, but nothing is being done about this because of a lack of technology, funding, and government support.
According to Kennedy, energy is converted into electrons that travel through generator grids. The U.S. generator grids are not up to date and produce toxic pollution. The total cost of updating these generators is one trillion dollars over the next 15 years. If local governments would lift restrictions and encourage private investors to repair the grids, it would cost the government next to nothing.
With the current urgency Obama and the Democratic Party have to instill a green economy in our country, Kennedy believes that the dreams he has had of bettering our environment will soon become a reality. "Never rule the U.S. out. We have tremendous resources not only in the land, but in our people," said Kennedy. Kennedy continues to set an example for young environmental activists with his campaign to make the U.S. more eco-friendly.
Other features from the premier issue include the story of David de Rothschild's Plastiki journey to the Pacific's plastic garbage patch, Hilario Isola and Matteo Norzi's exhibition of the Starfish House, an homage to Jacques Cousteau, an exclusive interview with Gomorrah's Italian director Roberto Saviano by Beatrice Boromeo and an article featuring five of the greatest architects of our time and how they define the desire for sustainable beauty.
