Boies, Schiller & Flexner Brings On Former Head of DOJ Criminal Division

NEW YORK, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP (BS&F) is pleased to announce that Matthew W. Friedrich has joined the Firm as a partner in its Washington, DC office. He will focus on internal investigations, white collar matters, and litigation.

Friedrich joins BS&F following thirteen years at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where he most recently served as the acting Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division. In this role, Friedrich led the Division, with more than 740 attorneys and staff, in enforcing federal law in such areas as securities fraud, money laundering, cyber security, public corruption, health care fraud, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He also served as the Chair of the National Procurement Fraud Task Force, and as a member of the President's Corporate Fraud Task Force.

Prior to his tenure as head of the Criminal Division, Friedrich served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to U.S. Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey.

"Matt's rise through the ranks of the Justice Department as a career prosecutor and his trial record in the successful prosecution of complex white collar crimes are impressive and important," stated BS&F Managing Partner Jonathan D. Schiller. "We look forward to Matt's contributions to the Firm's work with clients on both criminal and civil investigations and trial matters."

Before his work at DOJ headquarters in Washington, Friedrich served as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Eastern District of Texas and in the Eastern District of Virginia. He was a member of the Enron Task Force, the group of distinguished prosecutors from across the U.S. selected to investigate and prosecute criminal cases arising from what was then the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history.

Friedrich is the recipient of the Attorney General's Distinguished Service award for his work on Enron, and of the Director's Award from the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys for Superior Performance as an AUSA for his prosecution of two Pentagon officials for corruption.

After graduating with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1994, Friedrich served as a law clerk for United States District Judge Royal Furgeson in the Western District of Texas.

BS&F, based in New York City, has grown to over 230 lawyers practicing in offices strategically located throughout the U.S. The Firm has tried more than 350 cases before juries and judges in federal and state courts and regularly serves as lead counsel on complex, high profile global matters.
