Buffets, Inc. Employee Awarded Educational Foundation's 800,000th ServSafe Certificate

    EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Buffets, Inc. (Nasdaq:   BOCB)
 announced that John Byrne, a Buffets, Inc. General Manager in training, was
 recently awarded the 800,000th ServSafe(R) certificate for food safety
 training by The Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association.
 Acknowledging the milestone on behalf of Buffets, Inc., Executive Vice
 President of Operations David Goronkin stated "Buffets, Inc. has been at the
 forefront of food safety training for a number of years, both via our college
 in Minneapolis as well as nationwide through our extensive field training
 network.  The ServSafe(R) program has been an important part of that effort.

 Food Safety Council, a coalition of foodservice operators, manufacturers,
