In commenting on the report, Cabot's President and CEO, Patrick Prevost said, "Sustainability is an important strategic issue for Cabot and we have a long history of exceptional performance. We strive to operate at the highest standards in each of our locations worldwide and have a culture of continuous improvement that has helped us to achieve and sustain this performance. Setting and meeting aggressive targets has been fundamental to our success over the years and will continue to be critically important in the future. Our customers, employees, shareholders and the communities in which we operate expect Cabot to be excellent in the sustainability area and we expect no less of ourselves."

The report details Cabot's safety, health and environmental performance over the past three years and its community outreach efforts. Information on Cabot's global standards and operating guidelines related to ethics and compliance, safety, health and environment, product stewardship and corporate citizenship are also outlined.

In addition, Cabot demonstrates its commitment and leadership in sustainability and disclosure through its active participation in appropriate industry organizations with the following highlights for 2009:

  • Cabot joins American Chemistry Council ("ACC"). ACC represents the leading companies engaged in the business of chemistry, who apply science to make innovative products and services that make people's lives better, healthier and safer. ACC is committed to improved environmental, health and safety performance through Responsible Care®, common sense advocacy designed to address major public policy issues, and health and environmental research and product testing.
  • Cabot joins Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition ("EICC"). EICC represents global manufacturers in the electronics industry who are committed to making meaningful and lasting social and environmental improvements in the electronics supply chain, including implementing a code of conduct for the industry aimed at improving working and environmental conditions. Cabot is actively participating in a working group within EICC that is pursuing transparency in the tantalum supply chain.
  • Cabot participates in Carbon Disclosure Project ("CDP"). CDP promotes the disclosure of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data by the world's largest corporations to create the most comprehensive repository of GHG emissions data. The data is then made available to institutional investors, business leaders, policy makers and the general public. Cabot's 2009 results positioned it well against peer companies.
