Capital BlueCross Reaches Out to Former Employees of Turbine Airfoil Designs

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Capital BlueCross President & CEO William Lehr, Jr. today said the company is reaching out individually to former employees of Turbine Airfoil Designs (TAD) covered by Capital BlueCross, to help them resolve medical bills incurred between October 2008 and March 2009.

"The story in yesterday's Harrisburg Patriot-News helped lay out the hardship that continues to be experienced by the men and women who lost their jobs when TAD closed," said Lehr.

"Last March, we notified TAD employees that TAD had not been paying their health insurance premiums since October, and that their coverage had to be terminated, in some cases retroactive to October. For over a year, we have been working to try to remedy the situation. But given that legal proceedings have recently been brought against TAD, it is clear that solutions will not be quickly achieved.

"While we acted in good faith, so too did the former employees of TAD. As yesterday's Patriot-News story makes clear, many of these employees had in good faith undertaken medical treatments between October and March. Those are the situations we want to help resolve.

"Capital BlueCross is a business - but we also are a non-profit organization with a

70-year community mission. And this is one of those instances where mission should prevail. So I have directed that we will reach out to the affected covered employees in the coming days, to develop a plan to address the situation with them.

"I am also directing our team to reach out to the hospitals, physicians and other providers who provided these services. It is my hope that, as community-oriented organizations and individuals in their own right, they will work with us to ameliorate this situation."

Capital BlueCross will be contacting all former covered TAD employees by the end of next week.
