Capt. Timothy J. Moshier Memorial 5k Run/Walk is Embraced by Community to Preserve a Fallen Hero's Legacy

Charity Photo Show to be Held in Conjunction with Memorial Run

18 Apr, 2007, 01:00 ET from Capt. Timothy J. Moshier Memorial 5k Run/Walk

    DELMAR, N.Y., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 28, more than
400 runners and walkers are expected to toe the line at the Bethlehem
Central Middle School to participate in the inaugural Capt. Timothy J.
Moshier Memorial 5k Road Race. The race begins at 9:00 a.m.
The charity event is being organized by the friends and family of Capt.
Tim Moshier, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point
who was killed in Yusufiyah, Iraq on April 1, 2006.
Following the race there will also be a high-end raffle giveaway that
will include an all-expense paid trip to Orlando and a weekend getaway to
 Cape Cod.
The event is raising money for two initiatives: Fisher House, a
non-profit organization that assists military families in time of need and
the Capt. Timothy J. Moshier Memorial Scholarship Fund, a student endowment
being set up at Bethlehem Central High School.
Additionally on Friday, April 27 at Nathaniel Adams Blanchard Post 1040
in Delmar -- the Albany County American Legion branch -- the work of 13
professional photographers will be on display and up for sale in a silent
auction in conjunction with the race. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. The
photo show will have a theme of 'Life' and proceeds from the auction will
be donated to the Gold Star Family Support Center at Fort Hood which offers
support and counseling for families who suffer the loss of a soldier.
"The Gold Star Family Support Center was an immense help to our
family," said Ali McKee, Tim's sister in-law and a professional
photographer who is hosting the show. "The support that they offer Army
families that have lost a loved one is so necessary."
"This is really becoming a family and community-oriented event and it's
a reflection of how Tim lived his life," said Katie Moshier, Tim's widow
and one of the event's organizers. "It's bringing out the best in our
 town."
Several local businesses are supporting the race with a variety of
donations. Day Dreams of Delmar Day Spa and Salon is offering its deep
tissue massages for race participants on the day of the race while Price
Chopper and Hannaford Supermarkets are donating refreshments. Other
sponsors include H & B Bridge Constructors Inc., Upper Hudson River Rail
Road, Skyland Services and DePaula Chevrolet.
"The response of the community to honor Tim's legacy has been
remarkable," said Geoff Decker, the event's director. "People who had never
even met Tim are offering their help and that's a testament to the impact
 he had during his life."
