Caterpillar Named to Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for the Eleventh Consecutive Year
PEORIA, Ill. Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) for the eleventh straight year, recognized as one of the sustainability leaders in the Industrial Engineering sector.
"Our ongoing commitment to sustainability fits perfectly with our focus on customers and helping them to become more efficient while meeting their sustainability challenges. Inclusion on the DJSI for the eleventh straight year is an honor and a confirmation that we are focused on making sustainable progress possible," said Doug Oberhelman, Caterpillar Chairman and CEO.
Launched in 1999, the annual DJSI process involves a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, product stewardship, climate and energy strategy, supply chain standards and labor practices.
Sustainable Development for Caterpillar means leveraging technology and innovation to increase efficiency and productivity with less impact on the environment and helping customers do the same – enabling their businesses to become more productive by providing products, services and solutions that use resources more efficiently.
"As I talk with stockholders, I consistently hear how important it is that we invest for the future and provide superior products, services and solutions that meet our customers' needs," continued Oberhelman. "And that's what we are doing when we deliver sustainable solutions to our customers."
Caterpillar's annual sustainability report further explains the company's focus on sustainability. The 2010 Sustainability Report underscores how we are "Powering Change," such as helping the world meet increasing demands for natural resources and helping our mining customers harvest those resources in the most efficient way possible.
