Central Texas Children's Book Author Will Be Aboard Lincoln Funeral Train May 2 in Springfield, Illinois
AUSTIN, Texas, April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- At a May 2 fundraiser at Crowne Plaza in Springfield, Illinois, Texas children's book author Lisa Roberts will be one of the first people to tour a recreated reproduction of Leviathan 63, President Abraham Lincoln's steam locomotive and his ornate funeral car that bore the body of the assassinated president home 150 years ago. That Roberts will be among the first to tour the train is fitting given that she has authored a book series featuring a boy and a girl riding across the country with President Lincoln's spirit and sharing great adventures with the aid of the Leviathan 63 steam engine.
In fact, Roberts has made the Leviathan 63 train reproduction created by Dave Kloke of Elgin, Ill., the official train of her Back to Basics with Aydan and Addy series, and is committed to raising funds for the train builder.
"I am proud of Dave Kloke and his team. Leviathan 63 is beautiful in every sense of the word and Aydan and Addy are proud to be her passengers across America in their book series," Roberts says. During the Crowne Plaza event she will talk with Kloke to gain more technical knowledge about Leviathan 63, sign books, and make photographs of the train for use in future books. In addition, Roberts has been trying to encourage cities and depots in her home state of Texas to host Lincoln's funeral train.
She says, "My ultimate goal is to find sponsors to help a real Aydan an Addy travel on Leviathan 63 to many of the states featured in my books and to have family events centered on such important subjects as patriotism, kindness, forgiveness and equal rights, which are all discussed in the series." The Lincoln book, the first in the 29-book series, came out in 2014. The second, due in May, features adventures with Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea.
Roberts is a former preschool teacher, child advocate, YMCA child development director, private school director and assistant director for the University of Texas child Development Center.
Tickets for the Crowne Plaza event can be purchased until April 24 by visiting www.thosetrainpeople.com. Cities wishing to host the Lincoln funeral train can send requests to [email protected].
