CH2M HILL and GE to Design and Build US$660 Million Gas-Fired Power Plant: Largest in Australia
DENVER, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- CH2M HILL and GE Energy (GE) today
announced its consortium will be the engineer, procurement and construction
(EPC) contractor for Australian-based Origin Energy's new 630 megawatt
Darling Downs Power Station to be located in Queensland, Australia. CH2M
HILL and GE will design and construct the US$660 million (AUD$780 million)
project, which will operate from single-fuel plant firing coal seam methane
gas and utilize an air-cooled condenser for the plant's primary cooling
system.

CH2M HILL will perform the engineering, design and procurement of the
offshore "balance of plant" equipment for the project, integrating with the
GE-supplied three Frame 9E gas turbine generators, a C7 steam turbine
generator and three heat recovery steam generators.
CH2M HILL will partner with Laing O'Rourke Australia for the site
execution of the project works as well as supplying equipment, components
and materials through the company's Australian Industry Participation Plan.
"We are pleased that our consortium team of CH2M HILL and GE were
selected for Origin Energy's new power station," said Don Zabilansky,
president, power business group, CH2M HILL. "We look forward to executing
this marquee project, along with both GE and our site execution partner
Laing O'Rourke," Zabilansky said.
"The combined cycle gas turbines, together with the use of coal seam
gas for fuel will ensure the plant has extremely low carbon dioxide
emissions," said Grant King, Origin Energy's managing director. "The use of
air cooling will put minimal demand on the State's precious water supply,"
King said.
Plant construction is expected to begin in August 2007, commissioning
in the fourth quarter of 2009, and ramping up of full commercial operation
in the first quarter of 2010.
