NORWALK, Conn., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Cheers, a top trade magazine covering beverage trends for large restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and bars confirmed today that the magazine's editorial board had picked Westport, CT-based Allied Domecq Spirits as the industry's best spirits supplier for 2003. An initial report, released several days ago, incorrectly identified the award as going to three companies, tied in the voting. Cheers editors and publishing staff emphasized today that Allied Domecq won the voting by a clear margin. The judges for the awards are all employees involved in the beverage programs of large, well-known restaurant companies including Outback Steakhouse, The Cheesecake Factory, Legal Seafood, Bennigan's, Red Lobster, Chili's Grill & Bar, T.G.I. Friday's and about a score of others. Allied Domecq Spirits is the exclusive U.S. marketer for such well-known consumer brands as Beefeater Gin, Stolichnaya Vodka, Sauza Tequila and Makers Mark bourbon. Other brands include Courvoisier cognac, Kahlua, Irish Mist, and Midori liqueurs, Carolans Irish Cream and Canadian Club whisky. The award was presented last week at the annual Cheers Beverage Conference, held in Irvine, CA, where almost 500 restaurant industry executives and their beverage suppliers gathered for a two-day conference. Also singled out by the Cheers board for honorable mention in the best spirits supplier category were Bacardi USA, Miami, FL; Diageo, Stamford, CT; Future Brands, Deerfield, IL; Schieffelin & Somerset, New York, NY; and Skyy Spirits, San Francisco, CA. Each one of these companies was cited by the board for the quality of service and support that they provided to their restaurant, hotel, nightclub and bar customers.
