Chegg.com CEO Steps Down to Find Balance

Jim Safka decides to step down to spend more time with family

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Chegg.com announced today that Jim Safka has stepped down as chief executive officer to accept a consulting position with the company focused on marketing, freeing him to spend more time with family. Osman Rashid, chairman and co-founder, has been named chief executive officer on an interim basis until a new chief executive officer is named.

"As I said when I started the CEO job at Chegg, I was looking for an early stage company that I could have an immediate impact and spend more time with my family," said Jim Safka. "Due to the extraordinary demands of Chegg over the last several months and exceptional growth, the work required of the CEO of the next 12-18 months has compacted into a much shorter period of time. Given my personal priorities and family desires, I have decided to pass the reigns to a new CEO but look forward to consulting with Chegg on marketing."

"Jim's ability to foster brand awareness is unparalleled and we sincerely thank him for his leadership at Chegg. We look forward to consulting with him on our marketing and bringing in a new CEO to carry the torch and drive the company toward continued success," said Osman Rashid, on behalf of the board.

The board will begin a search for a new CEO immediately. The company does not expect to make any additional structural changes or executive leadership changes at this time.
