Chicago Magazine Names the City's Best New Restaurants

May Issue Presents 21 Great Places to Eat Now

Apr 14, 2008, 01:00 ET from Chicago magazine

CHICAGO, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Chicago magazine, the largest city
monthly in the country, has selected the 21 best restaurants to open in the
last year. The May issue hits newsstands Thursday and features reviews of
each of the choice spots, which range from Italian to gastropub to
 Contemporary French/Japanese.
"Chicago's world-class dining status is such a given now, restaurateurs
are going way beyond what they once did in order to stand out," says Jeff
Ruby, Chicago magazine's deputy dining editor. "Phenomenal places like
Takashi and Sepia came out of the gate at a sprint, and they don't show any
 signs of slowing down."
Ruby and fellow critic Dennis Ray Wheaton ate at dozens of restaurants
in choosing this year's list. Their write-ups include everything from price
range to each place's 'showstopper' dish.
"We dissected each new spot from as many different angles as possible,"
says Ruby, "which means that we praised restaurants when they deserved it
and took them to task in areas where they deserved it."
Also in this month's issue are a feature on Kathy Savio, Drew
Peterson's third wife, who warned authorities she was in danger before her
death, and the twisting tale of the Chicago Spire, potentially the tallest
 building in North America.
