CHICAGO, May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Summer is the season for groovy beats, great eats, fun treats, and meet and greets -- and Shedd Aquarium has it all. Guests can jump into summer fun this June at Shedd Aquarium with a wide variety of special fun-filled events. What could be more jumpin' than the groovy beats of Jazzin' at the Shedd on Thursday nights? Great eats will be a given at Shedd Aquarium's second Right Bite seafood celebration. Guests are in for a fun treat with another behind-the-scenes look at the Oceanarium. Finally, an exclusive meet and greet: National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore will be kicking off Shedd Aquarium's Right Bite celebration. Shedd Aquarium offers the groovy beats of Jazzin' at the Shedd every Thursday night this summer from June through August. Now in its sixth season, Jazzin' at the Shedd keeps the aquarium open Thursday nights until 10 p.m. During Jazzin' at the Shedd, guests will have an extra two hours (until 8 p.m.) to venture through the Oceanarium, Seahorse Symphony and Amazon Rising, then close out the night by visiting with the 8,000 other inhabitants of the Aquarium, or just relaxing as live jazz bands perform against a spectacular backdrop of Chicago's world-famous skyline. This year's Jazzin' at the Shedd lineup for June is jumpin' with jive sounds from '30s swing to Latin jazz. The list includes Bill Porter and the Rich Fudoli Quintet (June 7), the Dee Alexander Quintet (June 14), the Henry Johnson B3 Quartet (June 21) and the Alejo Poveda Latin Jazz Quintet (June 28). Pasta, seafood or grill items will be available for dinner in Soundings restaurant. Admission to Jazzin' at the Shedd on Thursdays begins at 5 p.m. and is $8 for adults, $6 for children (ages 3-11) and seniors. Jazzin' is included with the purchase of a One-Day Pass and as always, Shedd members are free. Guests can get the facts (and great eats) at Shedd Aquarium's second annual Right Bite seafood celebration. Right Bite takes place June 8 to 10 in conjunction with Oceans Day (June 8). During daily events, guests can join in family-oriented activities, from taking the Right Bite menu challenge to discovering salmon's important role in the Pacific Northwest ecosystem, and from storytelling for the kids to movies for the adults. Guests will also receive a free wallet-sized Shedd Right Bite seafood guide created in partnership with the National Audubon Society's Living Oceans project. Shedd's chefs will even serve a Right Bite catch of the day that passes the Right Bite criteria: It comes from abundant, well-managed stocks, was caught in a manner that doesn't harm other animals or habitat, and tastes great. Seafood for Right Bite will be provided by Whole Foods Market. Right Bite events take place daily, Friday, June 8, through Sunday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and are free with Aquarium admission. To kick-off the Right Bite celebration, Shedd is offering an exclusive meet and greet with National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore, who will return to the aquarium on Thursday, June 7th. Sartore, who dazzled his audience at last fall's "Treasures and Terrors" Amazon lecture series, will present stunning photos and the compelling story of the Pacific Northwest's mighty salmon. This special event will begin at 6 p.m. with a private reception in the Bubble Net including cocktails and a buffet. The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45 for adults ($40 for Shedd members) and $35 for youths ages 12 to 16 ($30 for members). (This event is recommended for those 12 and older.) Ticket prices also include admission to Jazzin' at the Shedd before and after the lecture. For reservations, call 312/692-3333. For more information on any of the events offered in June, call 312/939-2438. Finally, June brings about the return of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity during this year's "Oceanarium Turns 10" celebration at Shedd Aquarium. Guests can get a special behind-the-scenes look at the largest indoor marine mammal pavilion in the world -- the Oceanarium. Visitors will learn how Shedd's animals are trained, catch a sneak peek at where the trainers prepare food, and find out more about Shedd's research and conservation programs. Behind-the-scenes is offered from June 8-22. Behind-the-scenes walkthroughs are included with the purchase of a One-Day Pass. For more information, visitors can call 312/939-2438 or log onto http://www.sheddaquarium.org . Shedd Aquarium is supported by the people of Chicago through the Chicago Park District.
