Chris Horner Returns for the 4th annual Clark's Corner Cycling Challenge Wins Stage 3 of Vuelta a Espãna 2013
IONE, Calif., Aug. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Wednesday, August 28, Ione, CA: American professional cyclist Chris Horner is getting his wheels ready once again to participate in the 4th annual Clark's Corner Cycling Challenge. The two-day affair takes place October 11 and 12, beginning Friday with a VIP dinner followed by Saturday-morning rides (10, 30 or 50-mile courses) and post-race activities. The event is expected to draw riders from all over northern California and beyond. Proceeds will benefit Interfaith Food Bank of Amador County and World Bicycle Relief.
Currently participating in Spain's La Vuelta 2013--the "amazing race" for cyclists, featuring 21 stages and 3,319.1 miles of terrain and 41 mountain passes--Horner took the lead after Stage 3; quite a feat, as the 41 year-old athlete is the oldest rider to win a stage in a Grand Tour.
On the heels of a spring knee injury, subsequent surgery and brief-but-successful recuperation, Horner also placed second earlier this month in the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, a six-day cycling event in southern and central parts of the state.
Riding with a rare and sustained zeal, the Bend, OR, resident shows no signs of stopping. "I love racing. Everyone keeps asking me when I'm going to retire, but I won't do that until I feel like I'm just suffering all day on the bike and never winning bike races. At this moment I feel like I can keep racing forever."
Clark's Corner Cycling Challenge starts with a VIP Dinner, 6 pm, Friday, October 11.
Ten, 30 and 50-mile rides happen Saturday, 9 am-3 pm, October 12.
