Chris Matthews, Host of MSNBC's Hardball, Journalistic Icon and Best-Selling Author Speaking to the Executives' Club of Chicago Matthews to Share His Thoughts on How Ideological Opposites Can Get Things Done
CHICAGO, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 14, Matthews will reflect on a unique time in American history, when two great political opponents - O'Neill and President Reagan - served together for the benefit of the country and became one of history's most celebrated political pairings. Prior to becoming a journalist, Matthews served as top aide to Speaker of the House, Tip O'Neil, and will share firsthand accounts of a different political era with The Executives' Club at its Chicago Global Leaders Luncheon.
Given recent events in Washington, reflecting on how government can and should function properly will be a timely topic. Program attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Matthews' newly released best-selling book, Tip and the Gipper: When Politics Worked, following the program.
Prior to his work with the Speaker, Matthews served in the Peace Corps, worked for the U.S. Senate and served as a presidential speechwriter. In the late 1980s, Matthews switched to full-time journalism. He began his career on television in 1994 and three years later, launched Hardball, now on MSNBC. In addition to his most recent book, he is the author of six best-selling books: Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero, Hardball: How Politics is Played, Told by One Who Knows the Game; Kennedy & Nixon: The Rivalry that Shaped Postwar America; Now, Let Me Tell You What I Really Think; American: Beyond our Grandest Notions; and Life's a Campaign.
