City of Detroit Announces Red Wings Celebration
DETROIT, June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick announced today that Detroit will honor the 2002 Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings with a parade and rally on Monday, June 17. The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Woodward Avenue and the Fisher Freeway (I-75) Service Drive. It will proceed south on Woodward to Jefferson Avenue and go west on Jefferson to Washington Blvd. The parade will end at Jefferson and Washington Blvd. A rally at Hart Plaza immediately follows the parade. "The Red Wings are the pride of Detroit," said Mayor Kilpatrick. "We want to honor the team for its championship spirit. Hockeytown is painted red today." The City of Detroit expects more than a million fans to come downtown for the celebration entitled, "A Detroit Toast to Hockeytown."
