NEW YORK, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, Inc. ("CD&R") announced today that a fund it manages has completed a $27 million first round investment in Guidance Solutions, Inc. ("Guidance"), a leading online business developer and e-business incubator based in Marina Del Rey, California. CD&R expects to invest an additional $8 million in Guidance. A fund managed by BCI Partners, a media and technology focused venture capital firm, also completed a first round investment of $8.0 million in Guidance and expects to invest an additional $3.6 million. Guidance is focused on transitioning traditional businesses and existing brands into successful online businesses. The company maintains an equity stake in a number of the online ventures it helps to establish, creating a portfolio of companies in different market segments. Currently it has minority equity stakes in a number of Internet enterprises and is evaluating additional ventures. Guidance was founded in 1993 by two former employees of Cambridge Technology Partners and Sun Microsystems. Earlier this week, CD&R announced an agreement will Allianz Capital Partners, an affiliate of Allianz Group, to acquire Fairchild Aerospace Corp. in a transaction valued at approximately $1.2 billion. In the Internet area, a CD&R Fund recently made a $25 million investment to finance the launch of TheSauce.com, an Internet-based solution that emerged from a major e-commerce initiative at Alliant Foodservice, Inc., a $6 billion in revenues foodservice distributor that is majority-owned by a CD&R-managed fund.
