Evolution of Monthly Publication Serves Internet Technology Innovators

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- CMP Media LLC (Nasdaq: UNEWY) today
announced that with the March 2002 issue, Web Techniques will become New
Architect to reflect the evolution of its editorial content and audience.
New Architect is a monthly print publication that serves technology
leaders who are architecting their organizations' e-business foundations. New
Architect provides these technology leaders with in-depth information that
facilitates the selection and integration of Internet and emerging
 technologies with core business systems.
New Architect is an evolution of CMP's Web Techniques, which delivers
strategy, design, infrastructure, and development information to Internet
managers. Launched in 1996, Web Techniques grew from Dr. Dobb's Journal, a
magazine with a 25-year circulation history. Internet management has evolved
considerably since then, and Web Techniques has grown accordingly to continue
leading its readers in their maturing roles.
"Eight months of extensive research with our readers and vendors has shown
us that organizations are integrating Internet technologies into business
processes, and they're increasingly calling upon our readership to validate
and integrate these new technologies for the organization," said
Amit Asaravala, editor in chief of New Architect and editorial director of CMP
Media's Internet & Mobile Group. "In turn, our readers are looking for
technically sophisticated information about products and services before they
make a final purchase decision. To better serve them, we're going to focus
closely on the critical decisions leaders must make when planning a technology
architecture. And we're going to demonstrate how Internet and emerging
 technologies solve actual business problems."
"The integration of the Internet, IT, and business practices are
transforming established businesses, large and small," said Bob Melk,
publisher of New Architect and group director of the CMP Internet & Mobile
Group. "What used to be stand-alone Internet or IT initiatives are now
strategic business imperatives. Our readers are making the technically
strategic decisions of what to deploy today and what to prepare for tomorrow.
They need a magazine that informs those decisions."
Research from IDC, Gartner, and other analyst firms has shown that the
Internet has evolved to become the core component for enterprise technology
solutions, and that while overall IT spending is decreasing, the percentage of
IT budgets devoted to Internet initiatives is increasing year after year as a
strategy to increase business productivity and revenue.
"New architects are evolving to serve a critical role within
organizations," said Regina Starr Ridley, President of CMP Media's Specialized
Technologies Group. "These are innovators building bridges between
technologies and business processes in order to transform business. New
architects investigate, test, and select technologies, oversee key
implementations and have vast influence over their organizations' technology
practices. I'm excited that New Architect speaks to this shift taking place in
 the market."
Fulfilling the tagline "Internet strategies for technology leaders," the
magazine will educate and inspire "new architects" by featuring in-depth,
objective analysis of the critical technologies needed to achieve strategic
business objectives. Every issue will detail the benefits and advantages of
adopting new technology solutions as well as strategies for overcoming
challenges associated with new technology. New Architect will not report
"news" on company rankings, earnings, or executives, but instead will offer
practical case studies, expert opinions, and objective comparisons that help
readers evaluate tools and services for eCommerce, Web hosting, digital rights
 management, and more.
Available on newsstands February 15, 2002, New Architect's circulation
will be comprised of 140,000 stringently qualified decision-makers who are
Internet, IT, or corporate managers, who purchase Internet software, hardware
and services, and who are involved in strategy, development or management.
