BURLINGTON, Vt., Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- College For Every Student (CFES) is committing to help one million more low-income students become college and career ready over the next decade. Rick Dalton, CEO and president of CFES, announced this expanded vision at the organization's National Conference Oct. 28 and Oct. 29 in Burlington, Vermont.
CFES has helped 100,000 students in the United States and Ireland develop Essential Skills to get to and through college, and, by utilizing an extensive network of college and corporate partners, the organization is also helping students become career ready.
"We will expand our reach and deepen our impact, and harness the digital tools of the 21st century," Dalton said. "Our work is about leveraging education—specifically a college degree—to move our scholars into the global work environment. It's about opportunity. It's about changing life trajectories."
Dalton addressed 380 K-16 educational practitioners and CFES Scholars, alumni and program directors, stating that CFES plans to expand into five additional countries by 2018.
The CFES model—based on three Core Practices of Mentoring, Leadership Through Service and Pathways to College and Career—is currently being integrated in 200 rural and urban schools throughout the United States and in Ireland.
CFES Scholars, students who take part in the CFES program through their schools, are often the first ones in their families to go to college.
"The CFES Scholars are positioned to break the cycle of poverty," Dalton said. "A key part of the CFES program is igniting each student's aspiration to get to and through college, then advance to a productive career. By making critical information, people and professionals accessible, every CFES Scholar understands that college and career are realistic objectives."
Google Evangelist Jaime Casap, one of the keynote speakers at the conference, said, "The impact [of CFES] goes beyond anything we could imagine. The impact goes on for generations."
College For Every Student (CFES) is a global leader in helping low-income students become college and career ready. CFES currently supports 25,000 students through partnerships with rural and urban K-12 schools and districts in 30 states and Ireland. www.collegefes.org
