"College students are a unique bunch. They go to school, often work one, if not two, jobs and many still find the time in their busy schedules to give back to their community by volunteering," says Brian Cartier, NACS Chief Executive Officer. "Our whole intent in developing National Student Day was to simply say 'thank you' to students, to give them recognition for the effort they put forth. They truly are an example to all of us."
As part of National Student Day, NACS sponsored a national contest in which students can submit stories chronicling the ways they give back to their community and be entered to win a variety of prizes including scholarships and iPads. To date more than 160 stories have been submitted.
"Today many participating college stores are hosting specials events, from author signings to special sales; from bringing exceptional student volunteers to the store for recognition to charity drives, the variety is exciting," said Charles Schmidt, NACS public relations director. "And, it's all just to say thank you!"
